What if my deadline or due date has passed?
All of the courts are run a little differently. Some require that you pay for your ticket prior to granting permission to do traffic school. Other courts have you attend traffic school first and then turn in your certificate with your bail amount. Either way your court handles it you are given a completion/due date and this date is to be taken very seriously. If you're due date is within a few days or is past due you may wish to contact the court and request an extension. Many courts grant extensions and will work with you to allow extra time to complete your traffic school obligations.
This is a Traffic Violator School Course, not a Driving School
"Course content is limited to traffic violator curricula approved by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Students participating include traffic offenders, repeat traffic offenders, adults, and teenagers, and those who have and those who have not been referred by a court. Instructor training, business regulatory standards, and Vehicle Code requirements of traffic violator schools are not equal to the training, standards, and Vehicle Code requirements of licensed driving schools (California Vehicle Code Section 11200(b)(1))."
When can I take traffic school?
You can take a traffic school once every eighteen months for one traffic violation in one county, court or jurisdiction with the court's permission. You cannot take traffic school for some traffic violations such as: DUI's, manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident, leaving the scene of an accident with injures, etc. The DMV and the court will now check your driving record to determine if you have already taken a traffic school for a violation any other county, court or jurisdiction within an eighteen month period before giving you permission to take a traffic school.
As of July 1, 2011 your first traffic violation within an eighteen month period will not be dismissed, it will show as a ( Conviction-masked ) and will be masked on your record with no points on your drivers license record. Any other violations during the eighteen month period in any county, court or other jurisdiction will show as a conviction with points on your drivers license record.
Masking of Citations on your DMV record-
There are certain exemptions to having your citation masked on your driving record that you should be aware of prior to completing this traffic school. Your citation will not be masked in the following situations:
a. A driver who has already attended a traffic violator school course within the last 18 months would not be eligible to have their violation masked on their record
b. A driver who holds a commercial driver license would not be eligible to have his or her violation masked on their record
c. A driver who holds a commercial driver license from another state would not be eligible to have their violation masked on their record (These prohibitions are authorized under Vehicle Code section 42005 (b) and comply with Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations.)
CVC 43005 (b) Pursuant to Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations, the court may not order or permit a person who holds a class A, class B, or commercial class C driver's license to complete a licensed traffic violator school, in lieu of adjudicating any traffic offense or order that a conviction of a traffic offense by a person holding a class A, class B, or commercial class C driver's license be kept confidential.
d. Pursuant to CVC 41501, a driver who has not paid a deposit of fees or bail, and has not pled guilty or no contest, or has not been convicted by the court of jurisdiction would not be eligible to have his or her violation masked on their record.
e. Pursuant to CVC 42205(c)(2), a driver who has a conviction which would result in a point count of more than one point on the record would not be eligible to have their violation masked on their record
Note: If you have a Class A,B, or Commerical C drivers license you cannot take a traffic school for any traffic violation even if you are driving your personal vehicle after work hours.
By enrolling in this online traffic school program, you are agreeing to provide specific information to enroll in the course. The information is necessary to enable the school to report completion of the course to the appropriate court and the Department of Motor Vehicles
I have attended traffic school within the past 18 months. Can I take your online traffic school program if I've received another ticket?
Most courts have allowed drivers to attend traffic school just once every 18 months. Most courts have applied this same limitation to home study programs but, in certain cases, an exception may be made. Under Section 41501 of the California Vehicle Code the judge may allow you to take traffic school again to keep a citation off your record even if you have attended traffic school or taken a home study program within the past 18 months. In order to do so you'll have to appear before the court with a good reason why you should be allowed to take traffic school again. The decision is at the sole discretion of the court.
Special Notice: The FEDERAL/DISTRICT COURTS listed on our website are used for violations received on a Military Base, a Federal Government facility or in a National Park! If you did not receive your ticket in one these Federal locations then you choose the correct County and and Superior court jurisdiction where you received your violation ( As noted on your citation).
This traffic school is not approved for L.A. County Traffic Courts. If you rec.d your citation in L.A. County you must contact the court for an approved L.A. County Traffic School.
Identity verification, what is that?
Identity verification is a court required procedure whereupon you as the student are required to prove your identity before taking the final exam. This program offers two options for identity verification.
Identity verification is required by the courts in the following CTSI counties:
Alameda, El Dorado, Humboldt, Kern, Kings, Madera, Monterey, Orange, Sacramento, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Stanislaus, Tulare and Tuolumne.
For the following CCS counties ID verification is now required and the process and fee will be explained to the student after they are linked over to CCS's website to take the final exam:
Glenn, Lake County, Napa, Lassen, Santa Cruz and Ventura.
OPTION 1: Online identity verification ( thru IDology ) - $9.00 non CCS and NTSA counties
During the verification process you will be asked to enter certain information to begin the process. If you are advanced to the next part of the ID verification process you will be given a selection of 3 questions for verification. If you successfully pass the ID verification process you will be able to complete the final exam online.
To choose this option during the registration process simply select the "Online ID Verification" option after you have selected the county and court your ticket/citation was issued in. When you are ready to begin the Final Exam you will be directed to the IDology's website to verify your identity.
OPTION 2: In-person notary public. Non CCS and NTSA counties
To choose this option during the registration process, simply select the "In-Person ID Verification" option after you have selected the county and court your ticket/citation was issued in. With this option you will be required to print out the final exam, answer sheet and notary verification form and take all the printed documentation, or the workbook if you are a workbook student, to a notary of your choice. You will then have to show a valid picture ID to the notary and while the notary completes the form you must complete the final exam in the their presence. After you complete the final exam you will then need to fax the final exam answer sheet and the completed notary form with the notary's signature and notary stamp to the traffic school for grading and processing.
Where can I find a Notary Public ?
Notaries can be found in any city throughout the State. They're in Fed Ex Kinkos, Postal Annexes, UPS stores, Boxes etc., or check the yellow pages for a notary near you. After you have finished taking the final exam you can fax the final exam answer sheet and completed notary form from these facilities which makes it very convenient for you as the student.
Will there be an additional cost for the notary ?
There may be an additional cost depending on where you find your notary. Many banks and insurance companies will provide notary services free of charge.
